Marijuana Addiction Guide

What is marijuana addiction? Basically it's when you have an overwhelming desire to use marijuana. This is a disease that really affects a lot of people around the world every year. It's the same as any other addiction where you become obsessed with getting your hands on the drug, thinking about where you can get it from next, if you're going to be able to come up with the money, is the stuff you are getting this time going to be good enough. These are only a few of the questions a cannabis user will fret over as he is trying to score and he has a marijuana addiction. And like any other drug out there, the more you smoke marijuana every day the more you become immune to the effects. When you first start using marijuana you get fairly stoned on just a small amount, maybe a few puffs of the joint will get you off your head. But as you become more of a frequent user you tend to need more every time you smoke a joint. Maybe, after a few sessions, you can now smoke a half a joint, then a full joint. Then you start to need more than one joint.

Where You Should Begin

If you are worried about marijuana addiction you should begin coming to terms with your problem by trying to find out as much you can about marijuana as a drug. You should also try and find out as much information as you can about the effects that marijuana has on your brain or your organs. I would suggest that as at first you should do some searches on the Internet, there are some great sites with some fantastic information all about marijuana addiction, marijuana detox, and drug detox in general. Also you can search out information about detox centers that you might be able to attend to help you come off the drug.

Marijuana Addiction

It's unfortunate that many people are taking drugs today, far more than in previous years. I think this is much to do with the fact that drugs have a more acceptable face in today's society. This is especially true of drugs like marijuana. Marijuana addiction is different from other addictions.  What everyone sees in the heroin addict is a needle pushing junky who would rather steal from his own grandmother to get a fix than go without. But marijuana users are sort of in a class of their own. The drug is after all legal in several countries around the world, including the Netherlands, where you can openly smoking in cafes.

There have been studies into marijuana addiction and into the effects that smoking marijuana or indeed ingesting it in any way, has on your whole system. There are definitely effects on your short-term or working memory, the effect on your long-term memory are yet to be really hashed out, excused the pun.

There are many ways that people can use, or consume cannabis. You can smoke it a bong or in a joint, it can also be consumed as cannabis tea, or cannabis cakes, and it can be used in a cannabis vaporizer.

Smoking cannabis is the most harmful of these methods since you are not only smoking cannabis but you are smoking tobacco and papers. So you're more likely to get problems with your chest such as asthma, emphysema, or lung cancer. And there are several studies which pointed out that there are much more harmful chemicals in cannabis resin than they are in tobacco smoke. Thank you for visiting the marijuana addiction hub.

Seriously man, your blog sucks! I can't believe you wrote that trash! Do some research bro! Cannabis is not addictive at all. More people die every year from coffee than from weed, and weed does not impair your mind the way nicotine and alcohol do... Try reading a book you asshole

abovetheignorance 2 years ago

Im sorry, but asking people to find out as many facts as they can will only make them realize that they and their ancestors have been lied to. Marijuana is addictive, though the bodily reaction to the lack of it is 50 times less strong than that of alcohol. The mental barrier lies in one's basic need to feel comfortable and someone with fairly normal self-control can easily quit weed, whereas with crack users (im using a personal experience here) it takes every fucking bit of strength you have to not touch it for 3 days and all the while your heart is skipping beats, youre having cold sweats, hallucinations from sleep deprivation and rapid changes in blood pressure, and you could fall asleep anywhere. Now thats addiction.

Really? Have you ever done any research? You've wasted your time focusing on what clueless police officers believed in the 60's. If you're going to write a paper on pot, find some real, up-to-date sources. Ass hat.

Smoked for years, glad to say not any more. I spend my time living my life now, instead of laying doped up wasting every fucking minute. For Potheads you really are an angry bunch ...

I've smoked for years, when I take a tolerance break I usually have NO cravings for MJ outside of the fact that it's just so enjoyable. I've gone for several weeks without pot before. Did I miss it? Yes, but I detected no physical pain/cravings that are usually asscoiated with withdraw. I have PTSD from military service and ADHD. Pot helps me TREMENDOUSLY with flashbacks and sticking with a task. Cite some of your research please, it feels like your an uneducated fuckwad.

Jeez...I never had flashbacks with pot. By the way, I looked up 'fuckwad' in my dictionary and couldn't find it. I also looked up 'asscoiated' and couldn't find that either. It depends what you mean by uneducated...If you mean that I have not been drilled by the same crap that makes a person want to go and kill someone else for the sake of some primitive form of national preservation, then yes, I am an uneducated fuckwad.

Did you know that Cannabis are also used for medicinal purposes? They use it to cure pain, nausea, anxiety, depression and a range of other things and they are also giving out prescription medical marijuana in California to any one with enough symptoms. (I've read an article on it somewhere don't know where I've read it).

If it is used as a medical drug, surely the side effects are not as bad as most prescription drugs? I am not advocating the use of it, but I do think that there are worse things than weed - alcohol for example.

Any substance have the ability to screw up lives, may it be weed, alcohol, even cigarettes are very bad for one. BUT I think the person who's life are taken over by the substance should take some responsibility and not blame the drug itself.

But that is just my opinion and everybody are entitled to an opinion! So there are no need to fight, guys! :) Opinions differ and so do people.

Thanks for the hub Jackburton - it makes people think, but it will help even more if you add some links with references on the subject or places where people can get help if they want to.

Did you know that Marijuana is one of the several drugs that are to blame for many evils in our society. For example, countless addicts have lost their relationship or have killed individuals as a result of driving while they are high. What’s more, a lot of people have had to use many years or the rest of their lives in prison because of being obsessed with marijuana.

I believe anything that changes the way you feel can be addictive. I lived with a couple and when they ran out of pot they were absolutely nuts. If you have an addictive personality, pot is addictive. If not, not. Unfortunately I got addicted to the worst drug out there in my opinion. King alcohol. I would much rather be a pot head. Alcoholism is hell. Smoke away my friends and don't drink vodka. It is the blood of fucking satan!!!!!!!!!!!!!

candice 2 years ago

Most people won't admit that marijuana is addictive or the fact that if they don't have weed to smoke for a few days, they start to lose it... It's a strong psychological craving and if you want more proof, read this guy's story. http://stop-smoking-weed.org

What I disagree on is that people do abuse medical marijuana, because people only want M.M to sell to people and to make some money off of it, or they want it for there entertainment. This makes me angry because they don't need it, there abusing the law. It just sets a lot of bad examples on a lot of people, doing my research on Medical Marijuana there are a lot of side effects on M.M

The side effects on Medical Marijuana are loss of restlessness, excitement, hallucinations. Long use of marijuana can lose brain cells also can get lung cancer, plus blood cell blockage. People who smoke Medical Marijuana could have respiratory problems, chest colds, lung tissue can be destroyed. It can make people Nausea and can mess with the emotional development and can delay puberty. When you smoke marijuana your heart rate goes up and then makes your blood vessels relaxed and that causes stress to the body because your senses has changed.

Great post, thanks for taking the time. I guess it´s a big misunderstanding that due to the fact that marijuana is a natural plant people think it won´t harm them at all. Additionally, the ongoing debate about legalization in which the proponents belittle the dangers will keep many from admitting themselves to be addicted. But addiction for marijuana is real and can ruin your job, your relationships, and more. I´m a former addicted and know what it´s about. Visit my blog http://quitsmokingweednow.com if you like.

with all due respect..i dont really think you know what the work addiction means really as compared to say habit forming. i do not recommend smoking marijuana. smoking anything long term is probably a bad idea so i do agree there are medical risks to smoking it long term or to new smokers not used to the effects of strong pot. i have known many many smokers over the years and the conclusion i come to is this. unlike say heroin or cocaine that have actual physical withdrawal symptoms that can be very dramatic and dangerous marijuana doesnt cause these same type withdrawal symptoms. the average smoker if they stop smoking will NOT go into convulsions or even sweats. the most usual symptom is irritablity and trouble sleeping for a few nights at the most..thats it my friend. yes it is habit forming but habit forming is not addiction. a fair level of distraction or interest in something else can and will overcome the desire in most people. sure there is a small minority of users who's life revolves around it but its not like you have to have it everyday to function like say a heroin addict or even an alcoholic. if you eat it in reasonable amounts i do believe its almost totally benign as far as serious health risks for most people. when you go shopping of course you want good stuff and its no different w marijuana. you dont go looking for bad meat or stale bread to eat do you. so that analogy is a bit silly. there maybe some crime attributed to heavy users who lack legal ways of paying for it but this sort of thing is minor compared to the totally crazy efforts of heroin users or crack users. nobody is going to sell their baby to get a joint and nobody should be in jail for smoking one unless they are committing a real crime while doing so. I knew many many smokers who quit cold turkey in one day..just because they decided they didnt want to smoke anymore. yes it can be very habit forming for some people..but thats not the same as addiction.
