A guided walking holiday is a must for anyone visiting a country for the first time.  If you are looking for a more unusual and off beat way of taking a holiday, if you are trying to get away from traffic and traffic jams, if you are fairly fit and you like to keep moving, then you should consider taking one of the many guided walking holidays that are available in many parts of the world. You can start off with simple guided city walking. You can be brought around on short afternoon walks, or long walks depending on your ability and your taste for that particular day, you are on vacation after all. Then there is the country guided walking holidays. With these you can be taken up through the towns and villages in the country that you are vacationing in. You're guided walking holiday can be anywhere in the world, you can have a guided walking holidays Europe, the Americas, Africa, Australia and New Zealand, the UK and Ireland.

The only limitation is on your imagination. For the more adventurous amongst you there is guided hill walking holidays and guided mountain walking holidays. The latter can be quite dangerous so you have to be careful. Of course you could always take yourself on a self-guided walking holidays. This gives you the freedom to go where you want, and stop when you want.  Look up websites on the Internet for the particular country, area, or city that you intend to visit for information and comprehensive details about any guided walking holiday that you could think of taking. But I will give you a brief synopsis of the different kinds of guided walking holidays that I have outlined above.

As I said the beginning the city walk, for the novice Walker especially, although the more experienced walker will no doubt want to take part in the city walk as well. City guided walking holidays can be one of the best ways to actually see a city, if you want to see the main tourist attractions. You can of course arrange to have guided tours of famous buildings, art galleries, and museums as part of your city walking guided tour. And of course there are plenty of bus travel guided tours which include a large part of walking around tourist attractions etc., but this might not be part of the walking holiday that you are thinking of, so you might be better off avoiding this kind of thing. Of course there is always the self-guided walking holiday around the city. You will of course need a good supply of maps and guidebooks so you can find your way around the city at ease.

Country walking is a completely different thing. There are guided walking holidays in the country will take you through towns and villages where you will stop at local pubs and smaller attractions as you go. In general country walking guided tours of towns and villages, will use some other form of transportation to get from one town to the next town, otherwise you will be walking a lot more than you would want. Of course there are guided tours of famous areas, and guided tours of particular country sites such as the Burren region in Ireland. The guided tour of this area could possibly take a full day or longer. Again here you can take yourself out of the loop and go ofon self-guided walking tour of any area that you choose. If you're in the countryside you might want to bring a compass and maps, as well as your guidebook. You would also need to make sure you bring plenty of food and drink, and you should choose your clothing wisely depending on the climate and the season.

Guided Walking Holidays

Mountain and hill guided walking holidays offer an even more strenuous walking experience, and in some places should be left to the more experienced mountain and hill walkers. Hill walking can be done by the intermediate Walker because there would be guided pathways. But mountain climbing is a serious business, and depending on the mountain should not be undertaken without a guide. You would also have to practice beforehand, and your itinerary and equipment would have to be tailored for the particular mountain that you are trying to climb. Of course there will be self guided tours that are possible on smaller mountains and hills, but you should still take precautions about letting people know where you are, wearing the right clothes, and taking proper provisions with you.

Self-guided walking holidays are actually on the increase. People are planning their itineraries before they leave their homes, maybe taking in cities, or walking between cities, or walking over mountains, the choice is as diverse as the landscapes that you will cross. The benefits of self-guided walking holidays are that's you're not going to be paying for the guide for a start, you will also be free to do what you want and go where you please. You can choose your day's itinerary as you had planned, you can extend it, or you can retract it a little bit and relax. It's up to you. You will need to bring it provisions enough for yourself, maps, compresses, in fact everything you need for the other type of guided walking holidays, except maybe some better maps and a better understanding of your terrain. You must be careful not to get caught out in frequent conditions and always let somebody know where you would be on a certain day so that if you do not report in you can be easily traced and found.

So I hope you found something of interest in this article, of course you can see now that there are different walking holidays that you can take, and the guided walking holidays are of a wide variety. From city walking to country walking, from mountain and hill trekking to self-guided walking holidays. The choice is yours. As I said before there are numerous websites that are waiting to be picked of their information regarding areas of choice and walking in general. All it takes for you now is to get up, get out, and get walking, good luck.  Thank you for visiting the guided walking holidays hub.
