Dog Allergy

A dog allergy is when someone is getting an allergic reaction to a dog in their presence.  It is a common problem for dog owners to suffer from allergic reactions to the dog. It's actually a blood protein that causes the allergic reaction in humans. It's very hard to take because most people love their dogs like they were the best friends, and if you are showing an allergic reaction to your best friend it can be very difficult. There are of course ways of treating human allergy to dogs or at least minimizing the effect of the allergic reaction. Unfortunately far too many people just don't have the patience and will get rid of the offending animal without trying to solve the problem.

If you are having an allergic reaction to your dog , but you would still like to keep your job and I will try and show you a few methods that you can use to minimize the impact on you and your family.

Allergies in dogs

Dogs themselves are prone to allergies. They not only get the equivalent of human food allergies, they also get allergic reactions to flea bites, airborne allergens, bacteriological allergens, and allergic reactions to many of the products that they come into contact with. Dog food allergies are the most widespread.

So what can you do to minimize the effect that your dog allergy is having on you. First off let me tell you that you are the boss in your house. That means that what you say goes. So when I tell you that you should be washing and shampooing your pooch twice a week if you are having problems with a dog allergy, I don't mean if the dog wants to be shampooed, I mean it is necessary to shampoo your dog twice a week. I once knew a man who allowed his dog to roll around in cattle poop. He allowed this because he said this was aftershave for the dog and that in the wild this was how the dog would mask its own scent. I told him that in the wild a dog may very well eat one of the man's children and would that be okay too... You're the boss.

Other solutions to dog allergies

You can also ban your dog from entering certain rooms, such as your bedroom. I know this is difficult for some people but allowing your dog to lie in your bed, and in some cases under the sheets, just shouldn't be allowed. Also wash any bedding that your dog uses as regularly as possible.

Hypoallergenic dogs

There are certain breeds of dogs that are hypoallergenic. So if you haven't got a dog already and you are thinking of taking a dog into your home then you should consider one of these breeds. The Kerry Blue Terrier, the Schnauzer, or the Chinese Crested.

Consult a veterinarian

If you are thinking of buying a dog, or you already have a dog and you want some advice on allergic reactions you should consult a veterinarian or your physician. The veterinarian especially will be able to give you details about specific dogs that will minimize the allergic effects.
