Is it possible to Alcohol Detox at home? It depends on how much your risk is. If you are looking for a short-term Alcohol Detoxification solution because you have been binge drinking or partying too much, then the answer is yes. You must follow a few simple guidelines such as rehydration, nutrition, and plenty of rest.

If you are looking to Detox From Alcohol, and you are an alcoholic, then it is still possible, but you will need some sort of medical supervision.  It might be better for you to sign yourself into an Alcohol Detox Center. Although this is a more expensive option, it is far safer if you have a chronic alcohol problem.

If you are at risk of having a stroke or a seizure, then your only option is to choose one of the Alcohol Detox Centers in your locale.  The first thing to do if you want to follow an Alcohol Detox At Home program, is to consult your physician to see if you are a suitable candidate.

Next, you will need to set yourself up with everything that you will need. The process will last up to 7 days, so you will need to make sure that you have plenty of fresh water, food, blankets, and warm clothes. You will also need to stock up on over-the-counter medication to relieve some of the withdrawal symptoms. These will include headaches, vomiting, nausea, sweats, and shaking.

Alcohol Detox At Home

You can either have a medical professional stay with you for the entire period. Or, you can have a friend or relative stay with you and have the medical professional make daily visits to check on your progress. They would also be only a phone call away in case of emergencies. A plan will then be drawn up to make sure that everything is done safely. Don't worry about any nurse visiting your home. They will do so in their street clothes so you won't have to be concerned about your neighbors knowing your business.

Don't be tempted to try anything that you find on the Internet. Most of these products are there for one purpose and one purpose only, and that's to make money for the manufacturer or the seller. If you like wasting your money, then by all means purchase these products. But please show them to your nurse who will take them from you and throw them in the bin. Apart from your over-the-counter medication, your nurse will provide, and in both cases administer all of your Alcohol Detox medications.

Once you have completed your Alcohol Detox Treatment, you are ready to move onto the next stage of sobriety. This is dealing with your psychological addiction. This will be a lifelong process. As time goes by, this will become easier and easier but it will never end. The skills and strengths that you gain in this process will help you in every aspect of your life.

You should not attempt any Alcohol Detox Programs without seeking medical advice. This is essential to your well-being. This is especially true if you are attempting alcohol detox at home.

Uh, yeah. Stop drinking. I mean, come on. You’re not a heavy drinker yet it affects you that much? You simply must be in denial. If you’re not a heavy drinker, than stop. If you can’t, you need help. Serious help. Keep a diary and records every drink you take over the course of a week. Betcha change your mind about not being a “heavy drinker”.

If you have any of those thoughs because of alachol withdrawls please check into a local Detox center as soon as possible. Doesn’t sound like you have a condition that would qualify you to check into Detox because of the amount of drinking but I suggest you seek a doctors oppinion.

Star- Detox is bullshit. If he is willing to go, make sure he is willing to follow it up with atleast a 28 day rehab program. Detox just cleans your system and all you want to do is drink when you get out. good luck.

This was very helpful, unfortunately I will have to do this soon, and I am unwilling to spend the money, I am a true alcoholic and I am in the program, but I have fumbled again, and am concerned about doing detox and I know that my friends in the program will help but I wanted some sound advice first and this seems to be very good, thank you

I am currently detoxing after heavily drinkinf for the past 2 weeks. Grain alcohol is a cruel mistress. It was starting to effect my jogging performance.

It's been about 48 hours and I still have shakes, minor sweats, irregular heartbeat and a odd feeling in my chest.

Hopefully my run tomorrow will be easier than it was on the first day. I have been drinking so much water and eating fruits, high-fiber breads, vegetables and beans.

Unfortunately I've had to do this many times. Four times at an inpatient facility. Three times at home. The first time at home was cold turkey, the major symptoms only last about 20 hours. Granted I was only coming off a 2 month bender where I was drinking about 3 pints of vodka per day. The other times were more serious. Detoxing and drying out at home after 6-7 months of being drunk everyday. I was able to do it by slowly reducing my intake over the course of 3 days. Experienced hot and cold flashes, sweats, shakes, minor anxiety, and a constant ringing in my ears. Not too bad.

I'm getting pretty scared. I don't have the time, money, or resources to enter into a detox program. My anxiety and panic attacks are what triggered my drinking in the first place. Now, if I don't drink, I have anxiety, panic attacks, and paranoia... severely, starting from the time I wake up in the morning, and continuing throughout the day. I have a lot of stress and problems that triggered this issue in the first place, but I'm afraid that I'm now chemically dependent on alcohol. If I could just detox at home, I could get on an anxiety regimin with my doctor to handle my anxiety, panic, and depression. However, I can't risk mixing SSRI's, benzodiazepines, and other medication with alcohol. I honestly want to quit drinking completely. If I can make it through detoxing, and get this anxiety under control, I can get back to me... the old me... the real me. If not, I'm going to lose everything. That includes my mind, my job, my children, and maybe my life. I don't want that. I really want help, and I know that starts with my commitment. But, I'm committed. I just don't know how to get started and still retain my job. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

i have been in and out of detox programs since 1982. 16 altogether. i find myself now, in the middle of a drinking "binge," if that's what you want to call it, for the last 5 months or so. My daily intake as of late is a fifth of whiskey a day. I went into the hospital 2 weeks ago, but they sent me home with a weeks worth of librium, and when that was gone, i started drinking again. I am sick, tired, scared, and uninsured. I am at the end. I would like to stop, need to stop, drinking, but simply can't. I am one sick man, at 53, and have pretty much given up.

Joseph,

Two years here, mostly continuous and round the clock. The money and meds werent' available for hospitalization and it isn't a redongnized disorder here........so i'm tapering.....cute word , taper.........does shit for the vomits that come every two hours even tho I have had a new doc give me a benzo and anticonvilusuant........

It can and does feel like the end . I give myself a month or so before my heart or liver just says to hell with it. So, you are not alone... I just hope we make it thru this to some other side....right? I mean, I HATE alcohol. Have detoxed plenty and both in hopital andd on my own. But we can't think straight now being in the midst of it what the future might hold and the healthiness that , god fofbid- may provide....At fifty I'm almost given up and waiting for the midnight hearattack.

Point is? It hasn't tallen yet. Hang touch, I will try the same...........

I have struggled X3 years to learn about the disease of alcoholism and to work the 12 steps. These steps work but I am an older adult and have tried treatment 4x and sober living x2. I have worked a variety of aftercare programs dilegently. I had 7 mos.(x2)of sobriety, worked the program daily, sponsor, 5 mtgs. a week, socialized, volunteered, shared, daily meditation and readings...slipped again... no $ 2 detox safely...
