Alcohol Detox is the procedure of becoming free of alcohol addiction. Alcohol detox is also known as alcohol withdrawal or "cold turkey". Alcohol Detox can last up to over a week and the alcohol addiction withdrawal affects can be mild to severe, depending on the level of addiction. As a final thing before I turn to my own story of alcohol detox, once you have overcome the alcohol addiction, you must then face the alcohol rehab, which could take you all your life.I just wanted to open this page with a few experiences of my own. I went through a couple of personal tragedies a few years ago. In order to cope with life I turned to drink. This was not a conscious decision. It wasn't something that I went out to do. I started with one drink, then added another. I ended up staying out most of the night, until I was really too drunk to do anything else. But I was able to forget.

It wasn't something that I went out to do. I started with one drink, then added another. I ended up staying out most of the night, until I was really too drunk to do anything else. But I was able to forget.

Alcohol Detox?

And that's how it continued. I drank every night for three solid years. At the beginning I was able to laugh. Like I said, I could forget very easily once I had a few beers down me. Gradually as the time wore on, I found myself becoming worse and worse. I needed more and more drink. Alcohol detox never entered my mind.  And the drink became stronger and stronger. In the beginning, I drank pints of beer. Then I found I couldn't handle the volume, so I switched to whiskey. That solved a volume problem.

Alcohol Detox

My friends gradually started to disappear out of my life. I thought at first that they'd got fed up of the bar. Then a best mate told me that people were getting sick and tired of the way that I spoke to them. I had begun to get violent in the way I carried on with my friends. So they didn't want to know me any more. Then there was the night of the fight. It wasn't my fault, but I knew if I hadn't been drinking, I would never have reacted the way I did. There was just too much built up agony and anger. All Hell broke loose. I cried the next day when I remembered what I had done, and I felt so ashamed.

It was New Year's Day two years ago that I finally decided that alcohol detox was the only solution, that I had to give up the drink and go find some help. I went to my doctor, he suggested I should attend an alcohol detox clinic. I was horrified.

I knew that I was not an alcoholic. I knew that I had just got into bad habits, going to the pub every day, not been able to sleep at night unless I had a drink. When I knew I could kick the habit. I decided to attend the alcohol detox centre as an outpatient. I would attend AA classes. And do everything they asked. I would miss the whiskey. But I could live without it.

I haven't drank for over two years.it was the best decision I made in my life to go to alcohol detox.
